Post-Abortion Counseling
Women who are experiencing conflicted emotions following an abortion find a place of safety to talk through their feelings. The counselors at Alternatives use a grief model to help women in either an individual or group counseling setting.
Support Groups
Women who hurt after an abortion are not always understood. The scars of abortion are often so deep that some women have difficulty sharing their pain with others. We believe that the value of this support group is that we do understand. We carry each other's hurts by sharing our emotional and spiritual wounds.
As you begin to actively work through the grieving process, your feelings may intensify and seem overwhelming. If you feel yourself wishing to withdraw from group at any time, please recommit yourself. Attend the group for at least one more time to discuss your feelings. The support of all group members is vital to the healing process.
We all grieve uniquely and at a different pace. Each member is stepping into this group setting at a different place in the grieving process. You may have already worked through some of the issues we will be exploring or you may be at the beginning of your journey. Either way, there will always be something you can learn or share that will benefit others in the group.
We invite you to join us...and walk the path to peace.
The 14-week support groups use the following book as a guide for study and discussion:
- A Season to Heal:
Help and hope for those working through Post-Abortion Stress
by Luci Freed and Penny Salazar-Phillips, LCSW
A note from the authors:
"Our hearts ache for the countless women who suffer and have yet to begin the restoration process in their own lives. We hope this book is a road map through the valley of grief. There will be some hard places and slow progress, but we know that women who have experienced abortion can find comfort and hope and strength and purpose for their lives.
As you look at how your abortion has affected your life...know that we honor your courage and your search for peace and inner healing."
