Our Mission & Vision

TODAY, MORE THAN EVER, WE ARE COMMITTED TO STANDING WITH WOMEN FACING A PREGNANCY DECISION.

The women who walk through the doors of an Alternatives clinic often find themselves in what feels like an impossible situation. They’re pregnant, scared and isolated –  feeling that their only choice is abortion.

When a woman meets with the caring professionals at Alternatives, they quickly find that they are valued and not alone. They are met in the center of their complex circumstances with nonjudgmental, compassionate care and medically-accurate education about all pregnancy options.

Mission Statement

Alternatives Pregnancy Center cares for Denver-area women and men in pregnancy-related crisis and offers them a meaningful alternative to abortion. Following the example of Christian love, we seek to meet their emotional, physical and spiritual needs. And we enable and encourage them to choose life every day.

Vision Statement

The vision of Alternatives is to be a primary life-affirming resource in the Denver area. Through our programs and services, Alternatives educates, enables and encourages those we serve and the Denver community to honor life. We provide a safe place for women and men to make informed decisions regarding unintended pregnancy, sexual health as well as healing from abortion loss. Through our proactive approach to relationship education and life skills, we promote whole-person health education for youth and emerging adults.

Client Stories

40 YEARS OF ALTERNATIVES

Alternatives Pregnancy Center has been serving all communities of Denver for the past 40 years with free pregnancy and sexual health programs and resources. Their staff and volunteers are dedicated to the mission and belief that every human life, born and pre-born, has inherent worth and dignity. Alternatives seeks to challenge a culture of dehumanization by providing meaningful alternatives to abortion and authentic support at no cost. Ever.

The Story of Alternatives

1982 – Three men compelled to address the needs of Denver teens, women and men facing unintended pregnancy founded Alternatives Pregnancy Center.

1983 – Penny Salazar-Phillips, founding Executive Director, co-authors A Season to Heal: Help and Hope for Those Working Through Post-Abortion Stress. This book has helped thousands of women with the healing message of Jesus Christ.

1997 – Alternatives began providing ultrasounds to help women see and understand real-time information on their pregnancy. The cultural myth of “clump of cells” is dispelled when a woman sees the heartbeat of her baby.

2001 – Alternatives added an educational program, called A Promising Future, to impact the lives of teens by preventing pregnancy through whole person health and best health outcomes.

2005 – Alternatives received official student organization status on the Auraria Campus, and since then, thousands of students have heard the message of You have ALTERNATIVES.

2006 – Alternatives moved to the 1440 Blake Street location thanks to the generosity of a family dedicated to honoring the sanctity of life. Alternatives welcomed thousands of teens, women and men through the doors of the Blake Street clinic until the recent move in 2022 to the building at 13th and Speer.

2009 – Alternatives expanded into the city of Aurora. The new clinic was opened for operations in September 2010. The Colorado State Knights of Columbus donated the ultrasound machine for this clinic.

2011 – Thanks to a very generous anonymous donor, Alternatives purchased a Mobile Testing Clinic to  provide free STD testing in underserved areas around Denver.

2017 – After serving the Castle Rock community through the Mobile Testing Clinic for several years, Alternatives made the decision to open a clinic off of Plum Creek Parkway. The Knights of Columbus donated the ultrasound machine.

2017 – Alternatives hired the first official staff person to develop Men’s Support and served 22 men in the first year.

2020 – Alternatives opened a new administrative headquarters in the Inverness Business Park in Englewood.

2021 – Alternatives opened a medical clinic adjacent to the administrative headquarters in the Inverness Business Park.

2021 –  Alternatives served 107 men, growing more than 380% since 2017 and is on track to serve 200 men in 2022..

2022 – Alternatives launched Momma Mentoring and continues to deepen the relationship with women and empower them as they transition into motherhood.
