Dr. Ashley Graves is the new executive director of Alternatives Pregnancy Center. She hails from Texas but we are glad she is now with us in Colorado! Take a moment to get to know Ashley.
Family: I married Brent in 1997, and we have two daughters. One is 24 years old and the other is 19 years old.
My doctorate degree is in: Strategic Leadership
Favorite TV show: Law & Order or Bones
The last book I read: The Madness of Crowds by Louise Penny
If I could only listen to one pastor/Bible teacher, I would listen to: Timothy Keller
The best part about Texas is: The friendliest people!
What people most misunderstand about those of us from Texas: We can be quite obnoxious and super proud of our state, but we are very welcoming to others.
What I thought about Colorado before I moved here: I knew I would love the mountains, outdoors, and SNOW!
The biggest surprise moving to Colorado: People from Colorado are very proud of their state as well, and they have welcomed us with open arms.
Top items on my Colorado to-do bucket list: Snowmobiling and dog sledding.
My professional passion is: Building up young leaders and empowering them to work toward a cause they are passionate about.
How I started in pro-life work: I worked as a client advocate from 2002 to 2004 in Amarillo, Texas.
What attracted me to the position of executive director at Alternatives: I was a consultant to Christian nonprofits while I completed my doctorate. The idea of getting on the front lines again to protect women and children piqued my interest the most.
How I best describe Alternatives work: We meet women and men where they are and show them glimpses of Jesus throughout our interactions and counseling. Our time with clients is compassionate, nonjudgmental, and hopeful for people who may not have felt hope in a long time.
My impression of the partners and friends of Alternatives: I have felt embraced since my first time walking into Alternatives. The team and partners have encouraged and welcomed me completely.
When I’m not working, I enjoy: My favorite things…crocheting, coffee, and audiobooks. If I can enjoy all three outside or in front of a fire, it is a perfect day.
