Amendment 79 – Right to Abortion. Too extreme for Colorado!
Vote NO!
At this pivotal time in Colorado, the pro-abortion movement is putting forth Amendment 79: Constitutional Right to Abortion. What does this amendment mean to a Colorado voter that values the sanctity of human life?
A “no” vote will:
- Continue the ban on state and local funding for abortion services through taxpayer money.
- Maintain the authority of the state legislature to determine the legality of abortion in the state.
- Maintain your right to bring forth or vote on any future legislation restricting abortion.
According to the Colorado voter blue book, here are the consequences if this amendment passes:
- Amendment 79 is extremely broad and could prevent Colorado from passing statutes in the future to regulate or restrict abortion in any way. Placing the right to abortion in Colorado’s constitution limits the ability of lawmakers to pass policies preventing abortions later in pregnancies, establishing parental notification laws, or creating safeguards if they are interpreted to impede a woman’s right to abortion. Abortion is already legal in Colorado, and a constitutional amendment is not necessary to ensure abortion access in the state.
- Many Coloradans are opposed to abortion for personal, religious, and moral reasons. Taxpayers should not be forced to pay for services to which they morally object. State law already allows exceptions for public funding of abortions in cases where the mother’s life is in danger. Maintaining the current ban on public funding ensures that taxpayer money is not funding elective abortions.
On the subject of parental notification:
Colorado law currently requires parental notification (not consent) at least 48 hours prior to a scheduled abortion on a minor. The abortion industry, their research allies and aligned medical professional organizations all consider parental notification before a minor teen’s abortion to be an impediment to abortion access. Pay close attention to the language of the amendment, which prohibits state and local governments from denying, impeding or discriminating against exercising the right to an abortion.
Given this language, it leaves the door open for parental notification to be considered an impediment to abortion access which could potentially leave parents blindsided by serious physical, emotional and mental health complications of their daughter’s abortion.
Let’s not be satisfied with the current state of abortion in Colorado and throw up our hands feeling that there is nothing we can do. We can vote!
Vote NO on Amendment 79. It is too EXTREME!!
Don’t rely on the TV ads promoting this amendment. Pro-abortion groups have significant funding to pay for advertising to convince the public that there is a constitutional right to abortion without consequences.
Colorado already has NO ABORTION RESTRICTIONS RIGHT NOW!
This amendment is dangerous and has generational implications for the future of our children and grandchildren.
We need to rally together and say NO with our vote. Human lives are at stake!
