The events of the past month have brought the issue of racial injustice and disparity in this country to the forefront of our awareness. Alternatives has a rich 38-year history of standing for life. Our organizational statement of faith is foundational to our core value of the inherent worth and dignity of every single life from conception to natural death (pre-born & born). We serve anyone who walks through our doors regardless of race, religion, marital status, gender, etc. Our mission statement proclaims that we serve following the example of Christian love.

In this time, I believe Alternatives can be instrumental in a call for healing. We can listen to the communities around each of our offices to understand how we can be a part of promoting life in all dimensions within their neighborhoods. We can do better at reaching out to Black churches, agencies and community organizations in an effort to promote life and help our communities thrive. As a pro-life community of staff, friends and supporters, we can be in extreme prayer asking the Lord to lead us in having eyes to see and ears to hear the hurt, the pain and then be a part of a solution that reflects love and points back to God – the author of life. It needs to be a continual part of our awareness and as a staff team we will meet to discuss and identify specific ways we can overcome racial disparity.

Our organization has the sacred privilege and honor of representing Alternatives to clients, churches, supporters and friends in these challenging times. It is not easy to navigate all the complexities. I thank you for the commitment to stand for life. It is my prayer that we will reflect the beauty found in Micah 6:8 – “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
