How can the faith community discuss the topics of unplanned pregnancy and abortion?
Good question! Those subjects can be difficult to talk about, and can easily fragment relationships in our families, with our friends, and in our church communities. Both church staff and members throughout the Denver area often tell us these issues are “divisive” in their congregations. Many of us have questions and unsettled thoughts that we would like to discuss with others, but we don’t feel that there is a safe space to do this.
At Alternatives, we want to be a part of a positive solution and promote healthy discussions about these issues! With 42 years of meeting with women and men about unplanned pregnancy, talking with churches and connecting with community members, we want to share what we have learned. To do that, we created an interactive workshop where we facilitate conversations to contemplate questions like:
- What are the current realities for people in an unplanned pregnancy?
- What can we learn from those who have experienced abortion?
- What tangible and emotional supports are needed to encourage a choice for life?
Through this 1–2-hour training, we want to inspire people to build a culture of compassion so anyone experiencing unplanned pregnancy will know their communities will support them.
We have worked with coalitions of pastors, church staff, women’s ministry groups and volunteers to design this workshop, and we can tailor it to fit your group. Click HERE to get more information or to book a presentation.
